Who said that text is boring?

Live_TextThe latest version of Secret Square has a new feature that we are very excited about.  “Live Text” makes typing much more fun and expressive.  That’s because the text font changes as you move the phone.  Tilt forward for larger text, or tilt left and right for different colors.  This lets you “bling out” your text without fumbling to tap on-screen buttons, sliders or the like.  Enjoy!

Finally, truly-private messaging for the masses

Steve's Secret Square

Steve’s Secret Square

The release of Secret Square version 2.0 is  very significant for me.  I joined Vaporstream two and a half years ago largely because I believe strongly in the company’s vision — to free our digital lives by creating a place where information never lives and never lasts.  That mission is even more relevant now than it was back in 2006 when the company was founded.  Vaporstream has been serving corporate customers for years, but Secret Square v2.0 is the first truly private and easy-to-use messaging tool that anyone can use for free.  That’s a huge step for us as a company and I think it’s a significant development in the tech industry and for the individuals that it serves.

So, please enjoy the app, and, as always, let us know if you have any suggestions.  You can send me a message by adding “Steve Tarzia” to your Secret Square friends list or by scanning the Secret Square image in this post.

Secret Square version 2.0 will be here in the next week!  This update is especially exciting, as it means you can now quickly connect with your faraway friends! Furthermore, it’s now easier than ever to express how you’re feeling through the use of stickers.  We listened to what all of you had to say, and included some awesome new features!

Secret Square version 1.1 now available

We’re pleased to announce that Secret Square version 1.1 is now available in the App Store!

If you’re wondering what changed with 1.1, allow me to explain!  For one thing, it’s now easier to scan you friends.  Version 1.1′s scanning function includes a blinking orange square.  This clarifies which portion of the screen performs the scanning function, and makes connecting with friends even easier.  The next major improvement you’ll notice is that while taking photos cleared your message history in version 1.0, this is no longer the case.  Picture message away without losing earlier content!  Lastly, you’ll notice that when you launch the app, it displays a loading spinner.

Although 1.1 was just released, we’re already busy integrating some major new (top secret) features!

Stay tuned!  We have a feeling you’ll love where we’re going with Secret Square!

App update coming soon!

Get ready to update Secret Square! Version 1.1 will be available next week (likely between Wednesday and Friday).  Secret Square’s developer, Steve, has been hard at work updating the app.  I, on the other hand, have been busy sorting through feedback and providing Steve with details regarding additions Secret Square users would like to see included.

Version 1.1 will allow you to edit your username, visit a help screen, and contact team Secret Square from within the app.  Upon loading the app and while receiving messages, users will briefly see a busy spinner above the contact list.  Another new feature is that the users you most recently communicated with are now listed at the top of your contact list.  Furthermore, the scanning screen has received a visual makeover.

Please let us know what you think!

Northwestern Launch Event

Ask and you shall receive.

On Tuesday, January 21st, Team Secret Square spent the day at Northwestern University asking for feedback on our newly released iOS app.  Not only did we meet some great people, but we also secured some outstanding feedback from Northwestern’s student body.

At Secret Square, we really value the opinions of our users.  We understand that in order to create a successful app, we need to listen closely to our users, and shape our app’s features around what they desire.  We’re excited to look closely at the feedback we collected at Northwestern in order to load our app with even more features our users will love.

Feedback is always welcome.  We encourage you to reach out and tell us exactly what’s on your mind!

The Secret’s out!

Our app is finally out there and available to download on iPhone and iPad. Give it a try and let us know what you think.

So what is Secret Square anyway? It’s a private messaging app unlike any other — we call it “the future of mobile messaging”. Unlike other systems, we make no compromises when it comes to your privacy. We don’t know your real name, your email address, or your phone number. We don’t scrape your phone contact list or connect to your Facebook account. Your messages are encrypted through the magic of “Elliptic Curve public key cryptography”. That means that your messages can’t be read outside of on your phone. It’s simply impossible.

We get a lot of questions about how to connect to friends. Connecting on Secret Square actually requires that two people meet up in person and scan each other’s phones. We call it scanning your friend’s Secret Square. Isn’t that old-fashioned? Yes, but it’s the only way that you can be sure the person you’re talking to is really who you think it is and that the encryption key you’re using is authentic.

Best of all, the app is super-simple, quick and fun to use! Messages disappear two minutes after they’re opened so we think you’ll start some intense conversations. Stop reading this and start hitting up your friends with some real talk.

We’ve enjoyed building Secret Square but this is just the beginning of the journey. The best is yet to come.
